This pressure mimics the feeling of being in the womb, where babies were surrounded by warmth and gentle resistance on all sides. A full tummy helps your little one feel cozy and sleepy, which makes for those sweet, relaxed poses you’ll love forever.

Keep baby warm and comfortable.
A warm, quiet space helps your baby feel secure and content throughout the session. We’ll make sure the studio or your home feels just right before we begin.

Bring a pacifier if you have one.
Even if your baby doesn’t usually use one, a pacifier can be a gentle way to soothe between poses and keep the session calm and unhurried.

Did you know that torticollis — when a baby prefer

Did you know that torticollis — when a baby prefers to turn their head one way — can affect your newborn photo session? Babies with this neck tightness or preference may feel uncomfortable in certain poses that newborn photographers typically use.
As a newborn and family photographer and a Doctor of Physical Therapy, board certified in pediatrics, I bring decades of experience working with babies and children into every session. I’m always watching for signs of torticollis and adjusting poses to keep your baby comfortable and supported.
Babies can be born with torticollis, or it can be acquired in the first few weeks. Since the “Back to Sleep” campaign began in 1994 to reduce SIDS risk, we’ve also seen an increase in both torticollis and plagiocephaly (“flat head syndrome”).
Parents usually see their pediatrician at 1 week, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year — but torticollis is often noticed much earlier, sometimes just after birth. Research shows that when treatment begins within the first month, recovery rates reach 98%. Each month of delay makes recovery slower and more challenging.
If you notice your baby always turning their head one direction, ask your pediatrician for a referral to physical therapy right away — don’t wait until the 2- or 4-month visit. Early treatment helps prevent flat spots and may even avoid the need for helmet therapy.
