Timeless Family Portraits That Celebrate Your Story

The years pass quickly, but the moments that define a family deserve to be remembered forever.

From the laughter of young children to the quiet embrace between parents and grandparents, every season of life tells a story worth preserving. During our sessions, I create timeless family portraits that celebrate genuine connection, authentic emotion, and the people who matter most.

Serving families throughout Medina County and Northeast Ohio, I believe your portraits should be more than beautiful photographs — they should become treasured heirlooms displayed in your home and passed down through generations. A portrait taken today becomes, in twenty years, a doorway back into exactly how this season of your life felt: the way your toddler used to climb into your lap, the way your teenager still let you hug them for the camera, the way your parents looked at their grandchildren.

Whether you’re celebrating a growing family, welcoming a new baby, updating annual portraits, or gathering multiple generations together, your session is designed to capture the relationships that make your family uniquely yours — not a generic version of “family photos,” but the actual, specific, sometimes-chaotic, always-worth-it story of who you are right now.

A Relaxed Photography Experience for Every Family

Family photography shouldn’t feel rushed or stressful.

Children aren’t expected to sit perfectly still or smile on command. Instead, I create an environment where families can laugh together, play, cuddle, and simply enjoy spending time with one another. Those authentic interactions — the ones that happen in the gaps between “posed” pictures — often become the images families cherish most. The photo nobody planned is usually the one that ends up framed on the wall.

With nearly three decades of experience working with infants, children, and families as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Board-Certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist (PCS), I understand how to connect with children of every age — from a newborn who needs a quiet, calm room to a strong-willed four-year-old who needs a reason to want to be there to a teenager who would rather be anywhere else. My calm, patient approach helps even shy or reluctant children feel comfortable, while allowing parents to stop worrying about “getting the shot” and actually be present with their family.

The result is a gallery filled with genuine smiles, natural expressions, and meaningful moments that reflect who your family truly is — not a stiff, staged version of who you think you should be for the camera.

Why Families Choose Me

Your family deserves more than snapshots.

Every portrait session is thoughtfully planned to create artwork that will remain beautiful for decades — not just until the next trend comes along. I’m not chasing whatever pose or filter is popular this year; I’m building something your family will still love looking at when your kids have kids of their own.

Families choose me because they value:

  • A personalized photography experience from beginning to end
  • Nearly 30 years of professional experience working with children and families
  • Calm guidance that helps children feel comfortable and confident
  • Timeless editing that never goes out of style
  • Beautiful natural expressions instead of forced smiles
  • Professional assistance with wardrobe planning
  • Fine art prints, albums, and custom wall art designed to last for generations

My goal isn’t simply to deliver digital images. It’s to create artwork that reminds your family every day of the love you share — something you walk past in the hallway and pause on, even on an ordinary Tuesday.

Family Portrait Sessions Designed Around You

Every family has a different story.

Some are welcoming their first baby. Others are celebrating growing children, graduating seniors, grandparents surrounded by grandchildren, or simply recognizing how precious it is to pause life for a moment and preserve it. There’s no single “right” reason to book a session — if your family feels worth documenting right now, that’s reason enough.

Sessions can include:

  • Immediate families
  • Extended families
  • Grandparents and grandchildren
  • Young children and toddlers
  • Adult children
  • Multi-generational portraits
  • Anniversary celebrations
  • Seasonal family portraits

Each session is customized to reflect your family’s personality and relationships — a rowdy household of boys gets photographed differently than a quiet family of three, and that’s exactly how it should be. We’ll talk before your session about who’s coming, what your family is like together, and what you want to feel when you look at these images years from now.

Studio or Outdoor Family Photography

Whether you envision a cozy studio portrait or an outdoor session surrounded by Northeast Ohio’s beautiful parks and natural landscapes, we’ll choose the setting that best complements your family.

Outdoor sessions are especially popular during spring, summer, and fall, offering beautiful natural light and room for children to explore, run, and just be kids while we work around them rather than against them. There’s something about open space that takes the pressure off — kids relax when they’re not confined to a stiff studio setup, and that shows in the images.

Studio sessions provide a classic, timeless look with complete control over lighting and comfort — perfect for families with young children or those who prefer a clean, elegant style that will still look current in fifteen years. The studio is also a great option in the colder months, or for families who want a more formal, gallery-quality feel to their portraits.

Together, we’ll create portraits that feel authentic and beautifully reflect your family’s personality, whichever setting we choose.

What Should We Wear?

One of the most common questions I receive is what to wear for family portraits.

The goal is coordination — not matching. Nothing dates a family portrait faster than everyone in the exact same shade of blue, standing in a stiff line. Soft neutrals, earth tones, muted blues, sage greens, creams, and warm textures photograph beautifully and allow your family’s connection to remain the focus of every image, rather than competing patterns pulling the eye away from your faces.

Before your session, you’ll receive wardrobe guidance to help everyone look coordinated while still expressing their individual personalities — because your family portrait should look like your family, not like a matching set. If you’re not sure what’s going to work, that’s completely normal; we’ll figure it out together before your session date arrives.

More Than Digital Images

Technology changes. Hard drives fail. Phones get replaced. Printed photographs become more valuable with every passing year — they’re the one version of your family’s story that doesn’t depend on a password, a cloud subscription, or a device that still turns on.

That’s why I believe your portraits deserve to live on your walls, in beautifully crafted albums, and in the hands of future generations — not forgotten in a folder on a computer, buried under ten thousand other photos you’ll never scroll back to. Professional heirloom artwork transforms meaningful moments into lasting family history: something your grandchildren will hold in their hands someday, not just swipe past.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time for family portraits?

Outdoor sessions are typically scheduled during the hour before sunset, when the light is soft, warm, and flattering — often called golden hour for good reason. Studio sessions are available year-round, on a schedule that works for your family, regardless of season or weather.

What if my child doesn’t cooperate?

Children don’t need to sit still to create beautiful portraits. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen while children are exploring, laughing, playing, or cuddling with their parents. My experience working with children — both as a pediatric physical therapist and as a photographer — allows me to adapt each session to their personalities and energy level rather than fighting against them. If your child has a meltdown, that’s not a problem to solve; it’s just part of a real family session, and we’ll work through it together.

Can we include grandparents?

Absolutely. Multi-generational portraits often become some of a family’s most treasured images, especially as families grow and time with grandparents becomes more precious. If you have specific generational combinations you’d like captured (just grandkids with Grandma, the whole extended family, etc.), let me know ahead of time so we can plan for it.

How far in advance should we schedule?

Spring and fall dates tend to book several weeks in advance, so reserving your session early is recommended — especially if you have a specific date in mind (a milestone birthday, a holiday, or a particular season of light you love).

How long does a family session take?

Most family sessions run 1 to 2 hours depending on the type of session and how many people are involved — a larger multi-generational gathering naturally takes a bit longer than an immediate family of four. We’ll go over timing specifics when you book so you know exactly what to expect. See pricing and session details for a full breakdown.

Do you photograph families with babies, toddlers, and teens all in one session?

Yes, and honestly, those are some of my favorite sessions. Mixed-age families are exactly what most real families look like, and part of my job is making sure a session works for every age in the room at once — from keeping a newborn calm to giving a toddler room to move to letting a teenager feel like a collaborator instead of a prop.

What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate for an outdoor session?

If weather isn’t cooperating on your scheduled outdoor session day, we’ll reschedule for the next available date, or pivot to a studio session if that works better for your family’s timeline. I’d rather move a date than rush a session in the rain.

Do you offer digital images, or only prints?

Both. You’ll have the option to purchase digital collections as well as professional prints, albums, and wall art — but I always encourage families to bring at least some of their gallery into physical form. Digital files are wonderful for sharing; printed artwork is what actually gets seen, every day, for years.

What should we do to prepare, besides picking outfits?

Not much — that’s the point. Feed everyone beforehand, plan for a little extra time in case someone needs a minute, and try not to over-rehearse the kids on how to behave. The families who arrive relaxed tend to have the most relaxed, natural-looking galleries.
