This year, one of our projects is helping build a playground at a local school so children have a safe place to play and learn. 🏐 When I was a senior at the University of California, Riverside, I was part of the volleyball team that won the NCAA Division II National Championship! 🌱 I love gardening, and our family has 17 chickens. If you visit my studio for a photo session, don’t be surprised if you hear our rooster crowing in the background—it adds a little country charm to the experience! 🐓 Now it’s your turn! Every season of life looks a little different. Th Every season of life looks a little different. The season of late nights and first steps. School plays and soccer games and sending them off into the world wondering if you did enough.. And then, when you least expect it, a whole new season begins. Grandparenthood is something I couldn't have fully understood until I was standing right in the middle of it. It's different from parenting in every way. A little slower. A little softer. And somehow, even more sweet. I get to watch my children become parents. I get to see the same love I once felt for them reflected back in the way they look at their own babies. There are honestly no words for that. We don't take a single day of this for granted. This family, every chaotic and loud and beautiful person in it, is a gift straight from God. One I am more grateful for than I know how to say. Finding joy in every season isn't always easy. But when I look around at the people surrounding me, it really is the easiest thing in the world.

Welcome to the world, sweet little guy. 💙 Some ne Welcome to the world, sweet little guy. 💙 Some newborn sessions are extra memorable, and this one had me smiling from beginning to end. This precious little boy gave us the sweetest sleepy smiles—those tiny expressions that only last for a season and make newborn photography so beautiful. One of my favorite parts of every session is capturing the little details that parents never want to forget. The soft curve of his cheeks, his tiny button nose, delicate eyelashes, perfectly formed lips, and those impossibly tiny fingers that fit so perfectly in Mom and Dad's hands. Every little feature tells the story of these first precious days. And those adorable baby back rolls? Absolute perfection! Those sweet little folds, tiny toes, and curled fingers are reminders of just how quickly babies change. Before long, those squishy newborn features will be replaced by toddler adventures, making these images even more meaningful with time. This handsome little boy is the newest addition to a beautiful family, officially making them a family of four.✨ Stay tuned because I can't wait to share their sibling portraits! Summer with a newborn comes with a few extra thing Summer with a newborn comes with a few extra things to think about.. and a few of these may not be on your list! Here are three simple items that can help keep your little one more comfortable during the warmer months ⬇️ - A lightweight muslin swaddle or blanket for breathable coverage and shade. - A car seat cover to help reduce heat buildup while your car seat isn’t in use. (Always remove it before driving and check buckles and straps before buckling baby in.) - A portable stroller fan to improve airflow during walks and outdoor outings. .
 Remember, babies under 6 months should be kept out of direct sunlight whenever possible, and it’s always a good idea to watch for signs of overheating like flushed skin, unusual fussiness, or lethargy. As a newborn photographer, baby safety is always my top priority, whether we’re in the studio or talking about everyday life with your little one! Every year, we count down the days until this week Every year, we count down the days until this week arrives.. We affectionately call it "Camp Thompson" and it is exactly what it sounds like! 🏕️ Tractor rides with Grandpa. Backyard archery. Fishing by the river. S'mores that nobody is counting. Card games that go way too late. A dinner table that is never quiet and never empty.. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, we take our annual family photo. Multiple generations, at least one child with zero interest in cooperating, and somehow the most priceless image of the year! Not because everyone is perfectly posed. But because everyone is there. As a photographer I understand the value of capturing moments like these. But as a wife, mother, and grandmother, I understand something even more — these ordinary moments only feel ordinary while you're living them. Years from now, these photos will bring us right back. As I was editing this beautiful extended family se As I was editing this beautiful extended family session, I found myself smiling over and over again—not just because of the images, but because of the family behind them. Some of my favorite photographs from this gallery are the ones that tell the real story: cousins wrapped in spontaneous hugs, grandparents surrounded by the people they love most, siblings laughing together, and the quiet moments in between the chaos. And yes, there was a little bit of everything that day. Toddler tantrums. Diaper blowouts. Endless energy. Constant movement. Lots of laughter. But that's exactly what made it so special. What I loved most about spending time with this family was the way they loved each other. The respect they showed their parents. The patience they extended to one another. The way the older cousins naturally looked after the younger ones. The genuine affection that couldn't be posed or planned. These children may not realize it yet, but they're growing up alongside some of their very first best friends. Years from now, these images will remind them of the summers spent together, the games they played, the hugs they shared, and the family that surrounded them every step of the way. Documenting sessions like this is such a joy for me because they are about so much more than smiling at a camera. Last week, I shared a few of our family portraits Last week, I shared a few of our family portraits from last year. Looking at them reminded me just how much can change in a single year. And now, here we are with a brand-new family portrait. Every time we update our family photos, I'm amazed at the little things I notice. A daughter who suddenly looks more grown-up. New relationships and inside jokes. The subtle ways our family story continues to unfold. As a photographer, I spend so much time documenting other families that it's easy to put off being photographed myself. But I firmly believe that the people who are always taking the pictures deserve to be in them, too. My phone is filled with thousands of images of our family. The everyday moments matter, and I'm grateful for every one of them. But there is something special about intentionally setting aside time to create portraits that include everyone. There is no cropped-out parent behind the camera. No missing family member. Just all of us together. Is it always easy? Not even close. There are schedules to coordinate, outfits to choose, and plenty of discussions about what to wear. But those temporary inconveniences fade quickly, while the photographs become more valuable with each passing year. When I look at this portrait, I don't just see how much everyone has grown. I see the blessing of another year together. Another year of watching our children build their own lives, strengthen their relationships, and create memories we'll cherish forever. One day, this photograph will tell a story that words cannot. It will remind us of this season, these faces, these connections, and the incredible gift of family. That's why I continue to invest in professional portraits year after year. Not because I need more pictures. There is something incredibly special about watchi There is something incredibly special about watching the man you love become a father. Rick and I have shared many seasons of life together, but one of my favorites has been watching him grow into the dad our daughters know and love. From the sleepless nights and bedtime stories to the piggyback rides, life lessons, and reassuring hugs, he has always been there. Fatherhood isn't built in grand gestures. It's built in the everyday moments. The rides to activities (so many activities!), the conversations around the dinner table, the encouragement after disappointment, the laughter during family vacations, and the countless ways a father quietly shows up day after day.

Tiny fingers wrapped around his thumb. A newborn sleeping peacefully on his chest. The way he looks at his baby with equal parts wonder, pride, and unconditional love. In those early days, so much attention is focused on the baby—and rightfully so. But the beginning of a father's story is unfolding too. Those moments may feel ordinary now, but one day they will be priceless. Your baby will never be this small again. The way they fit perfectly in Dad's arms, the tiny stretches, the sleepy snuggles, and the overwhelming love of those first few weeks pass far too quickly. As a wife, mom, and grandma, I understand something even more important—I know how quickly families change. Every year, I encourage families to invest in professional photography, and I make sure to do the same for my own family. Is it easy getting everyone coordinated, dressed, and in one place? Not always. But every single year, it is worth it. The truth is that photographs become more valuable with time. They preserve the faces, relationships, and connections that are constantly evolving. Not every baby sleeps through their session — and Not every baby sleeps through their session — and honestly, some of my favorite images come from the ones who don’t. 🤍 The wide, curious eyes taking in a brand new world. The tiny furrowed brow. The unexpected stretch. The pouty lips. The little cries that lead to being wrapped safely in mom or dad’s arms. Sleepy moments are beautiful, of course… but awake moments, stretchy moments, and even fussy moments tell part of the story too. Because newborns are not meant to perform. They are meant to be loved, comforted, held, and remembered exactly as they are in this fleeting season of life. Beautiful looks a little different every single time. And that is exactly what I love most about this work. ✨
